iCloud: Delete iOS backup - here's how

Creating a backup in iCloud is important to protect the personal data on your iOS device from loss. However, if there are still backups from old devices there, you can delete them in a few steps and free up storage space in the cloud.

How to delete an iCloud backup directly from your iOS device

If you run out of space in your iCloud, you can free up storage capacity by deleting a backup. Since when you delete the backup, your iOS device will no longer be backed up automatically, so it is recommended that you only delete the backups of old devices or use iTunes to back them up. The procedure to delete an iOS backup depends on the iOS version of the device.
  1. If you are using iOS 11 or later on your iPad, iPhone or iPod, deletion is possible by going to "Ice Settings" > "Your Name" > "iCloud" > "Manage Storage" > "Backup", highlighting the device's backup and tapping "Delete Backup".
  2. On the other hand, if you are using a device with iOS 10.2 or older, you can find your iCloud backups under the path "Settings" > "iCloud" > "Storage" > "Manage Storage" and delete them there.

iCloud: How to delete an iOS backup on computer

Instead of deleting the iCloud backup on your iOS device, you can also do it on your Mac or Windows PC. To do so, go to "System Preferences" > "iCloud" > "Manage" > "Backups" in the Apple menu of your Mac, select a device and remove its backup by clicking "Delete". On a Windows PC, deletion is again possible by opening iCloud for Windows and selecting the backup you want to delete under "Storage" > "Backups".
