Delete iCloud backup - this way it is possible

Created backups of your Apple devices are stored in iCloud by default. If your cloud storage is starting to run out of space, you can delete iCloud backups you don't need. We explain how to do this on your mobile device and on your Mac or Windows PC here.

How to delete an iCloud backup on iOS

Because your iOS device creates regular backups and stores them in iCloud, this can take up a lot of storage space in the cloud over time. Therefore, to free up capacity in iCloud, it is recommended to delete older backups from online storage.
  1. If you are using a device with iOS 11 or newer, please first open the Settings app by tapping the "gear icon" in the app overview.
  2. In Settings, then tap your name and navigate to "iCloud" > "Manage Storage"> "Backups" to select a backup and remove it by selecting "Delete Backup".
  3. If you still have an older iOS version installed on your device, you can find your iCloud backups under "Settings" > "iCloud" > "Storage" > "Manage Storage".

Delete iCloud backup: This procedure is necessary on Mac and PC

As an alternative to the way described above, deleting an iCloud backup is also possible on Mac or Windows PC. If you are using a Mac, please open System Preferences and click "iCloud" first and then "Manage..." to view the list of existing backups and select one for deletion. Windows PC users will need the appropriate app on their device to manage iCloud. If it is available, please open iCloud and go to "Storage" > "Backups" for backup deletion.
