Facebook: Disable Autoplay - how it works

Also on Facebook, videos that are shown to you on the home page have been starting automatically for quite some time. This mode is called autoplay and can be annoying, especially when you are on the go. For this reason, you have the option to disable the function.

The autoplay function can consume your data volume without you noticing.

Facebook: Disable Autoplay in the App

After installing the Facebook app, Autoplay is enabled by default, even on mobile data connections. For this reason, it may be useful to disable it in the settings.

1. Open the Facebook app and click on the icon with the three horizontal bars in the top right corner to open the menu.
2. Scroll down to "Settings and Privacy".
3. Open "Settings" there and then tap on "Media and Contacts".
4. Tap on "Autoplay".
5. There you have three setting options: To disable autoplay, check "Never play videos automatically". Alternatively, you also have the options "For mobile data and WLAN connections" and "Only for WLAN connections". Letzteres ist eine passende Alternative, wenn Sie Ihr mobiles Datenvolumen durch automatische Videos nicht verbrauchen möchte.
6. Sollten Sie diese Option nicht in der App entdecken, überprüfen Sie, ob die neuste Version der App installiert ist und aktualisieren Sie diese bei Bedarf. Je nach Betriebssystem erfolgt dies über die Einstellungen oder den App Store.
