iPhone X UDID: All info about the device number

Every iPhone X has a unique UDID. You usually need this device number to have a special certificate file made, which may be necessary for installing apps.

Where can I find the UDID on the iPhone X?

If you need the UDID of your iPhone X, you can easily find it in iTunes. However, the specific device number is not obvious at first glance:
  1. Connect your iPhone X via WLAN or via cable with iTunes.
  2. Open iTunes and select your iPhone X at the top if necessary.
  3. Directly in the menu "Overview" you will now see a number of information, including the serial number. However, this is not the UDID.
  4. Simply click on the field "Serial number". Then you will see the UDID here.
  5. Write out the number or simply copy it by selecting "Copy" in the right-click menu.

Using the UDID for certificates

The UDID is a device number that is assigned once for each manufactured iPhone. So your device can be identified quite uniquely by it. Most of the time, you need the UDID to create an ad-hoc certificate. This certificate allows you to install an app on your iPhone X that is not available in the App Store. For example, if you program your own app, then thanks to the certificate it is possible to test the application without first having to release it in Apple's App Store.
