Laptop: Activate WLAN - how to get on the Internet

If you are using a laptop and want to connect it to the Internet, it is a good idea to do this via WLAN. Alternatively, you can use an Ethernet cable. When using a WLAN network, you must first activate the corresponding option on the laptop.

How to activate your WLAN on your laptop

If you want to connect your laptop to a WLAN network, it is necessary to activate the corresponding option. It does not depend on the model of your laptop used, but on the operating system you have installed. Namely, the software accesses the built-in transmitter of your device.

1. If you are using Windows 10, the network icon is located at the bottom right of the taskbar.
2. Double-click on it to open the settings. Alternatively, press the key combination "Windows" key + "A" and then go to "Network".
3. You will now see a small window in which you will find the option "WLAN".
4. Now activate the appropriate option here, if not already done, to activate the WLAN.
5. After that, it will automatically search for WLAN networks in the vicinity to which you can connect.
6. Alternatively, go to "Windows icon" > "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > "WLAN".
7. In older Windows versions, you will find the corresponding option in the "Adapter Settings" or generally in the "PC Settings".
8. Use a Linux system, use the search to look for "WLAN" and select the result "WLAN" under "Settings".
9. In the upper right corner is now the switch "Off". Click on it to activate the WLAN.
