Excel: Fix cells - is it possible?

To keep headings displayed to you while scrolling through an Excel spreadsheet, it is necessary to fix the respective cells. In this article, we will explain whether it is possible to set up the fixation for individual cells and how to freeze entire rows and columns.

All information about the possibility to fix cells in Excel

Fixing single cells is not possible in Excel. But instead, there is the possibility to fix whole rows or columns, so that they will still be displayed when you navigate through the respective table. To set up the fixation of columns and rows, please proceed as follows:
  1. To fix a single row or column in Excel, please switch to the "View" tab in the program and click on "Freeze window".
  2. Thereupon, a drop-down menu opens, from which you please select one of the two options "Fix first column" or "Fix top row".
  3. The fixation is then indicated to you by a thicker black line in the table and can be removed again by clicking "Unfix" under "View" > "Freeze window".

cells: How to fix multiple rows and columns at the same time

If you want to fix multiple rows or columns at the same time instead of the first row or column, respectively, this is also possible in Excel. To do this, select all the columns or rows you want to fix, navigate to "View" > "Fix Window" and select "Fix Window" from the drop-down menu.
