PowerPoint does not save - this is how you can remedy the situation

If you want to save a file in PowerPoint but only receive an error message, this can be triggered by write protection or faulty add-ins, for example. In most cases, however, the problem can be solved with just a few simple steps.

Problems saving PowerPoint files

If a file cannot be saved in PowerPoint, this may be related to faulty add-ins. Via the settings of PowerPoint you can disable all plug-ins.
  1. Open PowerPoint and click on "File" and then on "Options".
  2. Click in the settings on the menu item "Add-Ins".
  3. Select via the drop-down menu at "Manage" the option "COM-Add-Ins" and click on "Go...".
  4. You will now get an overview of the installed add-ins. Remove all set check marks and then click "OK" to turn off the add-ins.

Unprotect a file

Another cause for a file not being able to be saved is possibly the write protection. If you open a read-only file in PowerPoint, you will usually get a notification below the ribbon that editing is disabled. However, within the notification you will also find the "Edit anyway" button. If you click this, the write-protection will be removed. Alternatively, you can adjust the write protection in the file settings of PowerPoint.
  1. Open the presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. Click on "File" and then on "Information". There, under the menu item "Protect presentation", you will find all the appropriate options to adjust or completely remove the write protection.
If the problem persists, it may also help to check PowerPoint for errors using the repair function.
