Connecting Nintendo Switch to the Internet - how to do it

When you connect your Nintendo Switch to the Internet, you can not only play together with other players, but also download new games directly to the console. There are two ways to establish the Internet connection.

How to connect the Nintendo Switch to the Internet via Wi-Fi

In order to use the Nintendo Switch to download games from the eShop, communicate with other players or be informed about news, the console must be connected to the Internet. To connect the Nintendo Switch to the Internet, you need either a wireless router or a LAN connection.
  1. If you want to connect your Nintendo Switch to the Internet via Wi-Fi, place the console near the router.
  2. Then start it and navigate to "System Settings" > "Internet" > "Internet Settings" in the home menu.
  3. The Nintendo Switch will then automatically search for available Wi-Fi networks. If the WLAN of your router was found, please tap on its name.
  4. Now enter the password of your WLAN network and confirm the setup with "OK".

Nintendo Switch: Connect to the Internet via LAN cable

If you do not have a WLAN-capable router or its signal is not strong enough, it is alternatively possible to set up a wired Internet connection. To do this, connect a LAN adapter to the Nintendo Switch station and connect it with the LAN cable. Then connect the other end of the LAN cable to the router and insert the console into the Nintendo Switch station. Then open the menu of the console and select under "System Settings" > "Internet" > "Internet Settings" that you want to use a LAN connection.
