Alexa IFTTT: What's behind the abbreviation

IFTTT is the abbreviation for an online service. If there are certain functions for which Alexa doesn't yet have a skill, IFTTT can help you use it on your Alexa device anyway.

Alexa: For this you need IFTTT

IFTTT is the abbreviation for "If this then that" and refers to an online service that helps you connect applications that are inherently incompatible. So there is also the possibility to perform certain actions via Alexa voice input, which are otherwise not available for Alexa. On the IFTTT website, you will already find a large selection of existing applets that are usable on the Alexa device after successful activation. Besides the possibility to restart your computer with an IFTTT applet, you can also find applets for closing the garage door or using a motion detector.

How to use IFTTT applets on your Alexa device

To add new features to your Alexa device by using IFTTT applets, it is necessary to connect IFTTT to Alexa beforehand.
  1. To do this, open the IFTTT website in your browser at "ifttt.com/amazon_alexa" or download the IFTTT app from the App or Play Store to your smartphone.
  2. Then click on the "Connect" button in the app or on the website and log in to IFTTT for free with Facebook or your Google account.
  3. To use an applet, select it from the list of available applets, tap "Connect" and follow the further instructions to activate.
