Windows 10 LTSB - that's what's behind the abbreviation

Windows 10 LTSB is a special version of Windows that was developed specifically for businesses. What are the differences between Windows 10 LTSB and other available Windows versions and whether you can use LTSB as a private person, we explain here.

What Windows 10 LTSB

LTSB is the abbreviation for "Long Term Servicing Branch" and refers to a special version of Windows 10. This has all the basic functions of the operating system, but does without some apps and the automatic execution of updates.
  1. By doing without apps such as Cortana, Microsoft Edge or the Windows Store, Windows 10 LTSB is particularly stable and fast.
  2. But since the LTSB version is only available as part of Windows 10 Enterprise, the operating system can only be purchased by companies and businesses, but not by private individuals.
  3. Only the download of a trial version of Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB and subsequent use for 90 days is possible. All you need for this is a Microsoft account.

This is how updates occur with Windows 10 LTSB

Even though automatic updates do not occur with Windows 10 LTSB, companies that use this version of Windows regularly receive a new LTSB version. This is done via the so-called Long Term Servicing Channel. Generally, there is a new LTSB version every two to three years, which contains all the new functions that have been released in the meantime. However, companies have a freedom of choice here, allowing them to reject one update and wait for the next.
