Reinstall MacOS without losing data - is that possible?
A major problem with a new installation of macOS is that you also destroy all data from your device with it. This is not only inconvenient, but also difficult if you don't have a recent backup or can't make one anymore. Is it possible to perform the process without losing any data?
Reinstalling macOS: is it possible?
Although you surely know that a backup is important, it can still happen that you forgot about it. If you have now restarted the installation, the question arises whether you lose all the data.- If you have not made a backup, then the problem lies in the fact that you destroy the data in any case with a new installation.
- If the possibility exists, then you should cancel the installation and create a backup afterwards. Alternatively, upload all data to the cloud.
- To prevent this from happening to you again, always run Time Machine. This will back up all data at regular intervals.
- Alternatively, you can make a clone of your hard drive before an installation and save it on a stick. This should have at least 8 GB of storage space.
- If you have a GeniusBar or an Apple Store near you, visit the store. With another Mac, even at this moment, they can make a copy and install it on your Mac.
