The RAM is the short-term memory of your computer. The more RAM your PC has, the faster it works. Therefore, if you have too little RAM, your computer will be slow and should be upgraded. Before doing so, you should know what type is installed.
How to find out what type of RAM is installed
If you want to upgrade your RAM or replace defective RAM modules, you need to find out what type of RAM is installed in your computer. Otherwise, you may buy incompatible working memory modules. The RAM plugs into your computer's motherboard. You don't need to open your computer, you can find out what type of memory is in your computer in the Control Panel or Windows Task Manager. Another option is to install a free tool like CPU-Z. Also, check if the lack of performance is only with the RAM. Especially for games and graphics programs, you need a good graphics card in addition to enough RAM.Look up information in the Control Panel
- Open the Control Panel.
- Go to "System and Security."
- Select "System." You will see a listing of your computer's installed hardware.
- Under "Installed Memory" you can see how much RAM is installed in your computer.
