Android Q: Display working memory - how to do it

If you are using a smartphone with Android Q and you are experiencing problems, it can be useful to take a look at the utilization of the working memory. We explain here which procedure is necessary to display the working memory and in which cases this is recommended.

Android Q: Then it makes sense to display the working memory

The working memory of your Android Q device is normally managed automatically by the system and adapted to the different apps. However, if problems occur, it may still be necessary to call up the working memory manually. If your mobile device's battery discharges unusually fast, the device feels very warm. If your smartphone or tablet reacts very slowly, it may be useful to call up the working memory management and look for the cause of the problem.

How to call up the working memory on Android Q

How you get to the working memory of your Android device depends on what kind of device it is. On most devices, you can find the working memory either via its own menu item or by going to the Apps section in Settings.
  1. So first open the Settings app of your Android Q device and check if you can find an entry for "Working Memory" or "System Memory" under "Device".
  2. Tap on it if necessary and open the advanced menu by clicking on the "three-dot icon".
  3. Here you will find under "Memory Usage" all information about the current utilization of the device and can see which apps need particularly much RAM.
  4. If your device does not have its own menu item for the working memory, go alternatively to "Settings" > "Device" > "Apps" to display the working memory consumption under "Active".
