OpenOffice: Change menu language - how to do it

If you have accidentally installed OpenOffice in a foreign language or would prefer to use the program in another language, it is possible to change the menu language. How this works exactly and how you can also change the language of the spell checker, you can read here.

How to change the menu language in OpenOffice

Even if you have installed the German version of OpenOffice on your PC or laptop, you can still change the language of the user interface. To do this, you first need to download the desired language pack. To do this, open the OpenOffice installation page, search for the language pack and install it on your computer after downloading.
  1. Have you installed the language pack, please start OpenOffice as usual and click on "Tools" in the menu bar.
  2. Then select the entry "Options" and navigate in the options menu to "Language Settings" > "Languages".
  3. Select under "User Interface" which language you want to use and save the change with "OK".

This is how spell check changes are possible in OpenOffice

Instead of changing the complete menu language, it is also possible to change only the spell check language. If you have already installed the required language package under "Tools" > "Settings" > "Language Settings" > "Language", click on "German (Germany)" in the bottom line to change the language. Thereupon a new window opens, in which you please select a language and confirm with "OK".
