Save WhatsApp pictures to SD card - how to do it

WhatsApp is probably the most popular messenger for mobile chatting. Here you can add friends, send emojis and send voice messages. Sending pictures and videos is also not a problem. The pictures you receive are stored in a folder in the smartphone's internal memory, which means it fills up quickly.

How do you move pictures from the internal WhatsApp memory to an SD card?

It is not supported by WhatsApp to change the location of the pictures. For this reason, you can only move the images to an SD card manually. However, to do this, you need root privileges on your smartphone. Once you move the data, it will no longer be available in WhatsApp.
  1. To move the photos, you need an extra app on your smartphone. Install the file manager, if it is not already pre-installed.
  2. Select the internal memory in the file manager and look for the "WhatsApp folder". In this you will find a "Media" folder that contains all the videos and photos that have been sent to you.
  3. Tap on the folder and select "Move" in the options that appear.
  4. Now simply select your SD card as the storage location and the files will be moved there.
However, you can also simply create a backup of your WhatsApp and then delete all the data. So you have the possibility to restore them at any time.
