The world's most expensive city: here's how it's ranked

Have you ever wondered where in the world it's actually most expensive? Probably, the financial question is not exactly rare when planning a vacation. However, no one knows one hundred percent whether the offers in the city are actually cheap or set much too high.

How expensive a city can actually be depends on many factors. Vacationing in a particular city can be cheap. However, when it comes to living there, it's a different story.

1. The "Numbeo" database has already been determining the most expensive cities in the world every year since 2009, based on user data from over 550,000 people.
2. Even if already in Germany many cities with their prices can be oppressive, we are in the global ranking pretty far down.
3. Only from the 72nd place Munich can be placed in the table and is thus already far from really expensive cities.
4. Only within the top 10 Switzerland occupies several places. Measured on the number of inhabitants and the area, one could almost assume that Switzerland itself is the most expensive country in the world. However, the country only ranks 3rd on the list. In 2020, Zurich was also at the top of the ranking.
5. In 2020, the first three places were Hong Kong, Ashgabat and Tokyo. Somit lag die teuerste Stadt der Welt in China.
