iPhone X: Fingerprint sensor - all information on how to use it

Since the iPhone X is the first iPhone model without a home button, the device also no longer has the fingerprint sensor. Instead, the iPhone X uses a facial recognition feature called Face ID to unlock the device.

Face recognition instead of fingerprint sensor: this is how the setup works on the iPhone X

While the iPhone 8 still had a fingerprint sensor, Apple equipped the iPhone X with a facial recognition feature instead. This is used by default to unlock the device and must be set up beforehand.
  1. To use facial recognition, please go to "Face ID & Code" in the settings of your iPhone X and enter your unlock code.
  2. Tap "Let's go" under "Configure Face ID" afterwards to start the setup.
  3. You will now see a square frame on the screen, in the middle of which your head must be.
  4. Have you done everything correctly, the frame becomes round and you have to move your head in a circle until the green progress bar is filled.

More ways to unlock the iPhone X

If you do not want to use Face ID as a replacement for the fingerprint sensor, you alternatively have the option to protect your device using a PIN code. To do this, first tap on the screen and then swipe up from the bottom so that the field for entering the PIN code appears. Now you just need to enter and confirm the code of your iPhone X to unlock the device in this way.
