Netflix jerks - how to solve playback problems

If you have problems playing videos on Netflix, this can have various causes. However, if Netflix jerks, it is often related to the Internet connection. Since the video is streaming, you should have sufficient download speed.

This is what you can do if you have playback problems

If a video is jerking on Netflix, there are several things you can do. First, make sure the browser you use to watch Netflix is up to date. If you are streaming Netflix via an app, check instead that the Netflix app as well as your smartphone's operating system are up to date.
  1. First, restart the device you want to watch Netflix on.
  2. Check if other videos on Netflix are also juddering. If this is not the case, it is possible that the jerky video is faulty. You can report the video in question to Netflix using the question mark icon in the navigation bar at the bottom right. If the icon does not appear, the video has already been reported.
  3. If every video jerks, restart your router. To do this, disconnect the power for about 15 seconds and then plug it back in. This will fix most of the internet issues.
  4. Further, you can try setting the video quality to low or medium in the playback settings if your internet is not fast enough to stream in HD. You can find the playback settings in your account settings.
  5. Stop any downloads while you are watching Netflix, they may stress your internet line enough to cause judder or frequent buffering.
