iPad restart: How to use it to solve problems

You perform an iPad restart by pressing a key combination of the Home button and the Standby button. This forces a restart of the device, which fixes problems like a frozen screen. If the restart doesn't work this way, there is an alternative method.

How to use it to restart your iPad

A restart can help with several iPad problems. If your iPad's display is frozen, the device is very slow to respond, or there are connectivity issues, a restart will usually fix them. A restart forces the iPad to restart, but unlike a hard reset, no data is lost.
  1. To perform a restart, press the Home button and the Power button on your iPad.
  2. Hold them down for at least ten seconds until the Apple logo appears on the display.
  3. Release both buttons and wait for the iPad to restart.
  4. If you have an iPad without a Home button, press the Volume Up button briefly for the restart.
  5. Then press the Volume Down button, release it again and hold down the Power button until the device restarts.

iPad: This helps with problems with the restart

If the restart can not be performed in the previously described manner, connect your iPad via USB cable to the computer and start iTunes. Then try to force the restart of the iPad again by holding down the standby button and the home button. However, with this method, do not release the buttons when the Apple logo appears on the screen, but keep them pressed until the maintenance screen appears. Then click the "Update" option to let iTunes reinstall the iOS on your iPad without deleting any data.
