FaceTime: Check data usage

Many iPhone owners use FaceTime to exchange calls or messages with friends or colleagues. However, especially during a video call, data usage can skyrocket quite a bit. Optionally, you can therefore disable the use of mobile data on Facetime.

How to check data usage on FaceTime

In video calls, apps often consume an unexpected amount of data. By monitoring the data consumption, you can keep track of it. To do this with FaceTime, follow these steps:
  1. Open FaceTime and press the call log.
  2. Now select any call and tap the "i" icon to see details of the call.
  3. There you can see not only the call duration, but also the number of megabytes consumed for this call.
  4. Generally, a video call consumes about 4 megabytes per minute in the mobile network, a normal call only about 0.5 megabytes.

Disable mobile data for FaceTime

To avoid unpleasant surprises in mobile data consumption, you can disable it in FaceTime as follows:
  1. Open the settings and tap there on "Mobile network".
  2. Klicken Sie auf den Menüpunkt „Mobile Daten“.
  3. Suchen Sie nach FaceTime und stellen Sie die mobilen Daten über den Regler auf „Aus“.
  4. Ab jetzt wird die Nutzung mobiler Daten auf FaceTime automatisch unterbunden.
