What is Echo Input? We explain the purpose of the device

Amazon wants to make Alexa even more widespread, and to this end is also taking aim at devices that are not inherently capable of doing so. This is possible thanks to Echo Input. Our guide explains the tool.

Technology support: Echo Input makes old speakers Alexa-enabled.

Echo Input resembles a smaller version of Echo Dot; the difference is that Input has no speakers and therefore no audio output.

What is Echo Input and what is the point behind it?

Echo Input is a device that equips speakers with Alexa compatibility. The principle is quickly explained:
  • Echo Input is equipped with microphones and Alexa software to recognize and process voice commands.
  • By connecting to a conventional speaker via 3.5mm jack or Bluetooth, the commands are passed on and implemented on the receiving device.
  • Echo Input is thus, so to speak, the ears and the brain of the system, while the speaker is the voice.
Echo Input is therefore particularly suitable for classic, but high-quality speakers that you would like to continue to use, but with voice support and smart functions.Because Echo Input provides the speaker with the full Alexa functionality. Thanks to the compact size (8 cm diameter / 1.4 cm height) of Input, the additional device does not make itself too noticeable; depending on the room and position, it can even do its work almost unnoticed. Sound enthusiasts, for whom the output quality of the Echo devices is not good enough, can combine the best of both worlds in this way.
