View WLAN password - how to do it in Windows 10

The WLAN password is needed to establish a wireless connection with the internet router. If you don't remember your password but are connected to the WLAN network, you have several methods to choose from to display it.

Show WLAN password: These methods are available

If you do not remember your WLAN password, you can display it via the control panel of your PC. However, the prerequisite for using this method is that your computer is currently connected to the WLAN network whose password you want to view.
  1. In a first step, please open the Control Panel of your Windows 10 PC and navigate to "Network and Internet" > "Network and Sharing Center" in it.
  2. Then click on the name of your WLAN connection and select the entry "Wireless Properties" in the window that opens.
  3. Switch there to the "Security" tab and check "Show characters" to see your WLAN password in plain text.

Windows 10: How to find your WLAN password with the command prompt

Another way to display the WLAN password is to use the command prompt. To open it, please start the Run dialog first and execute the command "cmd" there. A new window will appear where you should type the following command: "netsh wlan show profile NAME key=clear". Please note that you have to replace "NAME" with the name of your WLAN network. After executing the command, you will be shown a number of information about your WLAN network. Look for the "key content" entry in these to read your WLAN password.
