Connecting two laptops - how it works

Especially if you want to send a lot of files, it can be difficult if you perform the operation without a stable connection. That's why it's most effective if you create a constant connection between two laptops.

Connect laptops: Ensure a stable connection

By making sure both PCs are connected manually, they don't have to worry about being disconnected during data transfer.

1. If both laptops are equipped with a network card, it's best to connect both devices with a LAN cable.
2. After that, turn on both computers and open the Control Panel on one device.
3. From the options that appear, select "Network and Sharing Center".
4. Now you need to change the adapter settings and click on the option "LAN Connection" there.
5. Now more options appear, from which you select "Properties of LAN Connections" and double-click on "Internet Protocol (Version 4 TCP/PV 4)" there.
6. Now manually enter the same IP address for both laptops and only change the last digit on one of the devices.
7. In the area "Subnet Mask" you must enter "255.255.255.0" and confirm the process by clicking "OK".
8. Before you can start the data transfer, you still need to share all the files to be transferred in the homegroup.

Alternative - the connection via WLAN

You can also connect two laptops via WLAN and share the files by sharing them with the other device in the homegroup.
