Is 100 Mbit worth it? That's how much you really need

For some time now, 100-Mbit lines have been available. These are already standard in cities, but are still rare in rural areas. The switch can be worthwhile in certain cases, but is completely unnecessary for other Internet users.

Is a 100 Mbit connection worth it?

A 100 Mbit line is roughly equivalent to 10 MB/s. Most offers are made with the word "up to" and usually have between 5 and 8 MB/s. How much actually reaches you depends on various factors.

• Whether you need a 100-Mbit line depends largely on how you use the Internet. If you are alone, a change is usually not worth it, as long as you already have at least a line with 50 Mbit - unless you regularly have larger amounts of data that you need to download.
• Keep in mind that you usually have to buy a new router so that you also get more bandwidth. However, this is supplied with many providers equal.
• If there are several people in your household who access the Internet daily and for this reason the Internet line is often times overloaded, a change is usually worthwhile.
• For an HD stream, for example, you need an Internet speed of about 3 Mbps. That is, only one person can watch an HD stream, if you have a line of 50 Mbit.
• Also the upload rate improves significantly, so you can load images and other media quickly from your PC to a website.

So whether 100 Mbit is worth it depends on how many people want to use the Internet at the same time and what data they load.
