Drone weight: This is how much a multicopter really weighs

Drones or quadrocopters enjoy great popularity. Here, there are quite different models. Some are quite large and have up to eight propellers. But there are also tiny drones that are not even as big as a pie plate. The weight varies greatly here.

How much does a drone weigh?

The weight of a drone depends on its size and payload (payload, payload). However, all drones have a maximum flight altitude of 100 meters. Only if you are on a model airfield, this maximum height may be exceeded.
  1. A small drone usually weighs no more than 250 grams. Drones that weigh between 250 grams and 2 kilograms must be provided with a name badge in Germany. This must bear the name and address of the owner. The label must be visible, durable and fireproof. According to the EU Drone Regulation, a drone license is also already necessary here.
  2. Drones weighing 2 kilograms or more usually have a lot of technology on board and are also quite a bit larger. For these drones you need from 2021 the EU drone driver's license.

  4. Drones weighing 25 kilograms and above may not be launched in Germany.
Weight: Who may control which drone?Drones that weigh a maximum of 2 kilograms may also be controlled by minors. If the drones are heavier and a drone license is required, the minimum age, according to EU regulation, is 16 years, as the license can only be acquired then.
