Excel: Fill in date automatically - this is how it is possible

In Excel, there are several ways to insert a date into a table. Here, however, it depends on whether you want the date to update itself. If you only want the date in a cell to be inserted automatically and not change, then a static value is necessary.

How to auto-fill date in Excel

In Excel there are various ways to insert a date. If you want to fill several cells with a date automatically continuously, enter a date in the topmost field. Then select it and click on the black dot in the lower right corner. Drag it down until you have selected all the fields where you want the date to be inserted. If you let go of the dot again, they will be filled in automatically. However, there are other possibilities.
  1. If you want to insert a date that updates itself independently, you must use a formula.
  2. To do this, select a cell into which the date should be inserted.
  3. Then enter "=TODAY()" without quotes and confirm with the Enter key.
  4. Another formula is "=NOW()". This specifies both the current date and time.
  5. Both formulas are updated dynamically. This happens whenever you refresh the table or reopen it.
