With GIMP you can crop your photos, retouch them or change their file type. However, before using the free image editor, you need to download the software to your PC or laptop.

How to install GIMP on Windows

GIMP is, due to its wide range of functions, one of the most popular image editing programs. In addition, the program is free and can be installed and used on various operating systems, such as Windows, Mac OS or Linux.
  1. If you have a Windows PC, first call up the website "gimp.org" on it and click on the "Download" button at the top right.
  2. On the next page, select the "Download GIMP directly" option and save the installation file to your computer.
  3. Then open the location of the GIMP file and double-click on it to start the installation wizard.
  4. Now select "German" as the language before you start the installation of GIMP with a click on "Install".
  5. Wait while the installation is performed, do not turn off your Windows PC and finally click "Finish".

Start GIMP on Windows PC

Have you successfully completed the installation of GIMP, you can start the program and use it for image editing. To open the user interface of GIMP, please click the "Windows icon" at the bottom left and navigate to the "G" section in the list of apps to select GIMP. If a shortcut was created during the installation, you can also start GIMP by double-clicking the corresponding icon on the desktop instead.
