With plugins you can extend the functionality of the image editing program GIMP. Here, there are numerous extensions, such as additional filters and effects or further options when working with textures. To use them, you must first select a plugin and then install it.

How to find and install plugins for GIMP

If you want to extend the features of the free image editor GIMP, you can install additional plugins. But before this is possible, you must first choose one. With GIMP Paint Studio, for example, you get additional choices for brushes.

1. Plugins for GIMP can be found on numerous websites. To find new extensions, a search engine can help you. No website offers all plugins. If you have found one you like, you can navigate directly to the website of the respective extension.
2. Select the desired plugin and click on the "Download" button.
3. The file will now be downloaded. This is usually available as a ZIP archive and must therefore then be unpacked with a suitable program. Windows und macOS besitzen meist eine passende Funktion. Klicken Sie mit der rechten Maustaste auf die ZIP und wählen Sie „Alle extrahieren…“ aus.
4. Die Installation des Plugins erfolgt direkt über das Bearbeitungsprogramm. Gehen Sie im Programm auf „Bearbeiten“ > „Einstellungen“, um das Plugin zu installieren.
