Zoom privacy: What you should know about it
Zoom is the talk of the town as a popular application for video calls and virtual conferences. However, the American company's privacy policy, which is not always transparent, has repeatedly been criticized. Here's what you can do about it.
Data protection with Zoom - all information
One fundamental problem with using Zoom is that data is transferred to the USA. Different data protection regulations apply there than in the EU. Common criticisms of Zoom's data protection are:- Flawed encryption: by default, instead of end-to-end encryption, only so-called transport encryption (TLS) is used for Zoom calls.
- Attention tracking: until April 2020, hosts of a meeting could arrange for participants to be monitored. This made it possible, for example, to check the attention span and active participation in a meeting. However, due to privacy criticism, this feature has been removed.
- Unclear privacy policy: while Zoom updated its privacy policy in March 2020, there is still ambiguity around data use and sharing with third-party companies.
