FIFA 21: "What if" event launched - we explain

With the next batch of dynamic cards comes even more movement in the FUT scene of FIFA 21. Our guide explains what makes the cards tick and why the "what if" event is so popular.

Real template: "What if" cards are based on the performances of real teams.

The FUT season in FIFA 21 is already advanced, but still has many months ahead. The "What if" cards therefore come at the perfect time.

FIFA 21: What are "What if" cards?

"What if?" can be translated as "what if?". For the event's special cards, this refers to the performances of the players' real clubs:
  • For cards of midfielders and attackers, if the real team scores at least six goals or more in the domestic league in the next five games, the card gets a one-time upgrade of +2 to the overall strength.
  • The same applies to defenders and goalkeepers if the team keeps a clean sheet at least once in the next five games, i.e. does not concede a goal.
The important thing here is the reference to domestic leagues - games in European competitions, national cups or national teams thus do not count. The "What if" cards are very interesting because they are already based on strong players anyway. For example, the first selection released at the end of February 2021 included top stars such as N'Golo Kanté (91), Jadon Sancho (90) and Marcelo (88). The upside potential logically makes the cards all the more valuable. This is especially true with players from strong teams, as they have a higher chance of meeting the challenge.
