Excel: Cross out word - format content
With the Excel spreadsheet program, you can do more than just calculations with numbers. Text can also play an important role, for example when naming columns or sorting names. If you want to indicate that something is no longer available, the "Cross out word" function helps.
How to cross out a word in Excel
In Excel, you can easily cross out a word using menu.- Click with the mouse on the cell in which the word is located that should be crossed out.
- Now right-click on the cell and select "Format cells".
- A menu appears in which you can change settings of the cell. Here, go to the "Font" tab.
- Bottom left in "Effects" you will now see the option "Strikethrough". Check the box and close the window by clicking "OK".
- The word is now crossed out. You can also use this method to strike through more than one word by simply selecting all the cells to which you want to apply the formatting.
- If you want to have a text automatically struck through when a certain condition is met, then this can be done with a macro. To create a macro, some preliminary work is needed.
- Once you have macros set up, you can use the line "Range("A1").Font.Strikethrought = True" to strike through all the text in the first cell.
