RFID chips - what's behind the name
Even if you are not yet familiar with the term RFID chip, you will already have encountered this technology. That's because you come across it again and again in your everyday life - namely when electromagnetic waves are identified. For example, you could use such a chip to unlock your car without a key.
This is RFID chips
The abbreviation RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification and describes a system that enables the identification of electromagnetic waves.- An RFID chip is the size of a 50-cent piece and is now manufactured as a mass product. In the process, the production costs only between 3 and 7 cents.
- On the chip itself, you can deposit the most diverse information, which must be recorded by a specific reader.
- You can deposit text traces or classic codes, but also numbers, names and passwords. In addition, individual information about the user can also be stored.
- A distinction is made between active and passive RFID chips. The difference is that active chips have their own power supply, which shortens the service life, but extends the radius of applicability.
- The amount of memory is limited due to the size of such a chip, which is why the RFID chips are often applied as a key replacement or identification option.
