Deleting an OEM partition - how to remove

Whenever a new Windows build is installed, Windows automatically creates an OEM partition on your computer. The new partition is used as a recovery partition in case of problems with the installation. Learn how to remove an OEM partition from your hard drive after a successful update here.

How to remove an OEM partition from your computer

Before you start deleting, you need to find out on which disk the OEM partition is located. To do this, access Disk Management from the Control Panel and note on which disk the partition was created. Then follow these steps:
  1. Open the Windows PowerShell via the Start menu. When doing this, make sure that you start the application as an administrator. Alternatively, you can also call the PowerShell with the key combination [WIN] and [X].
  2. Enter the command "diskpart" and confirm with [Enter].
  3. Next, call an overview of the disks with the command "list disk".
  4. Select the disk on which the OEM partition is located via "select disk X".
