Windows 10: Delete Recovery Partition

Windows 10 is the last version Microsoft will release. Therefore, some profound changes have been made. One of them is the restore option, which allows you to create an image of the system and reload it at a later time.

How to delete a recovery partition in Windows 10

A recovery partition is used by Windows to restore itself when an error occurs. Should you delete the partition, Windows may not start at all if a startup error occurs. It is best to create a recovery CD beforehand to avoid data loss. A recovery partition is easiest to remove via the Run function.
  1. Press the "Windows key" + "R" and type "diskmgmt.msc" to open Disk Management.
  2. Search for the recovery partition. Normally this is located on disk 0.
  3. Now open a command line by typing "cmd" in the search bar and then right-clicking on the command prompt. Wählen Sie „Als Admin starten“.
  4. Geben Sie nun folgende Befehle ein:„diskpart“, „list partition“, „ select partition <Nummer der zuvor herausgesuchten Partition>“, „delete partition override“.
  5. Die Wiederherstellungspartition wird nun gelöscht.
  6. Öffnen Sie erneut die Datenträgerverwaltung, um den nun frei gewordenen Speicher einer anderen Partition zuzuordnen.
