Windows 10: Partition your hard drive - here's how to do it

The operating system from Microsoft was released in 2015 and is the successor to Windows 8.1. As with previous versions, you can organize your hard drives directly from the interface. You can also use Disk Management to partition your hard drives.

How to partition your hard drives in Windows 10

If you want to divide and organize your hard drives in Windows 10, you don't need any additional software for this. With Disk Management, the operating system already provides you with all the functions you need to partition your hard drive. To open Disk Management, first right-click on the Windows icon. Then, also with the right mouse button, select "Disk Management" and then "Run as administrator".
  1. In Disk Management, all your hard disks are displayed. Both external and internal hard drives that are connected to the PC will be displayed. To edit a hard drive, you must select it with the right mouse button.
  2. Then opens a drop-down menu in which you can select various actions.
  3. If you now want to partition a hard drive, you need a storage area that is "Unallocated".
  4. If all areas are occupied, then you must first delete or shrink a partition. Note that this will delete all data on this partition.
  5. Now click on the unallocated area and select "New Simple Volume" from the menu that appears.
  6. Now opens a wizard that guides you through the creation of a partition. Thus, specify the size, letter and other information and confirm your selection.
