How to record a Photoshop action

You can automate certain repetitive steps in Photoshop using actions. Photoshop records all editing steps and saves them as macros. You can retrieve them via the Actions window.The Actions window contains predefined functions. You can start these via the "Play button" and test them on an image of your choice. Almost all of Photoshop's functions can be used in actions. This includes the photo filters, layers, masks and the adjustment layers in the Layers window.Record an actionProceed as follows in Photoshop to create and record an action.
  1. Open an image.
  2. Open the Actions panel via "Window" and "Actions".
  3. Click the "Create New Action" icon.
  4. Assign a name to the action and set other options. "Set" indicates a group of multiple actions. If you specify a function key, the action can be started via this shortcut.
  5. Click on "Start recording".
  6. Execute the commands and work steps you want to record.
  7. To stop recording, click on the "Stop recording" button or press the ESC key.
  8. Should you have forgotten work steps, you can insert them later. To do this, select the corresponding step in the action and click on "Start recording". Once you have completed the action, stop recording.
