Cutting out Photoshop hair - How easy it is

To be able to cut out curly or swirled hair professionally in Photoshop, you need the right tools. Work with different channels and contrasts between the hair and the background to successfully crop the hair.

Crop hair in Photoshop

To crop a person's hair in a portrait, follow these steps:
  1. Start Photoshop and open the image in which you want to crop the hair.
  2. Switch out the "Portrait Layer".
  3. Now go to "Properties > Quick Actions" and select "Remove Background" here. The action creates a layer mask.
  4. It is also possible to select the person on "Selection > Subject" and thus crop the person including hair.
