Record PC sound: With these means it works

If you want to create an audio file on which sounds of your PC can be heard, you do not even need additional software. With the on-board tools of Windows, you can easily record your PC sound.

If you want to record your PC sound and not significantly post-process the audio track, you will find all the necessary functions pre-installed on your computer.

Record PC sound under Windows 10

Proceed like this to record PC sound directly with Windows:

1. Right-click the speaker icon at the bottom right of the taskbar first and select "Sounds."
   

   Step 1: Right-click on the speaker icon and then click on "Sounds".
   

2. In the new window, switch to "Recording Devices" and right-click a free area within the list.
3. Set a check mark at "Show disabled devices". You will now see a new recording device named "Stereomix" in the list. Right-click the entry and activate the recording device.
   

   Step 3: Let "Show disabled devices" and select the new recording device.
   

4. Then right-click it again and select "Select as Default".
5. Click "OK" at the bottom.
6. After that, open the Start menu and enter "Voice Recorder" in the search box.
7. Open the corresponding entry in the search results.
8. Now simply click on the microphone in the middle to start recording your PC sound.

Software to record your PC sound

If you want to cut or otherwise edit the sound track after recording, it is a good idea to work directly with a program that gives you more options. For this purpose, for example, the free software Audacity is a good choice.
