Windows Media Player no sound - What you can do
If sound is missing when playing music in Windows Media Player, it is usually due to the sound being off. Check if the system sound and the sound in the media player itself is enabled.
No sound in Windows Media Player: check the system sound
The reason for the missing sound can be a turned off audio output. You can check this in the taskbar of your computer. If you see a crossed-out speaker icon there, your system's audio output is turned off. Correct this by first clicking on the icon and then clicking on the crossed-out speaker.Windows Media Player: Help with Sound Problems
Even if the audio output in Windows Media Player is disabled, you will not hear any sound. To check this, open Windows Media Player and look at the speaker icon next to the play button. If you still don't hear any sound now, go through the following points:- Restart Media Player.
- If all sliders are down in the equalizer, you may also have sound problems. Go to "Now Playing" and click the right mouse button. Select "Enhancements" > "Graphic Equalizer" and make sure all sliders are at least halfway up.
- Sometimes codec and plug-in problems can cause media content to play without sound. Go to "Tools" > "Plug-Ins" > "Download Plug-Ins" and search for the appropriate settings on the Internet.
- If sound problems still persist, visit this Microsoft website and use the Repair tool.
