How do I connect my laptop to the Fritzbox?

How you connect your laptop to the Fritzbox depends on whether you want to establish a wired or wireless connection. While you only need a LAN cable for the wired connection, establishing a wireless WLAN connection is possible in two ways.

Fritzbox and laptop: How to connect the devices via WPS

If you are using a Fritzbox as a router, you need to connect it to your laptop before you can access the Internet. To establish a connection between Fritzbox and laptop, you can choose between a wired connection via LAN cable or a wireless connection via the WLAN function. To quickly establish a wireless connection with the Fritzbox WLAN, it is recommended to use the WPS method.
  1. However, you must first activate the WPS function for this in the Fritzbox user interface under "WLAN" > "Security" > "WPS quick connection" by placing a check mark next to the "WPS active" entry.
  2. After that, you only have to press the WPS button on the Fritzbox and wait until the router has found your laptop and establishes a connection.
  3. Entering the WLAN password is not required when using the WPS method.

Connect laptop to Fritzbox manually

Alternatively, you can also connect laptop and Fritzbox manually via WLAN. To do this, click on the "WLAN icon" on your Windows laptop, select the WLAN network of your Fritzbox, click "Connect" and enter the WLAN password of your router. If you are using a laptop with macOS as operating system, you can establish a connection by first clicking on the "WLAN icon" in the Finder and then selecting the name of your WLAN network. Now enter the WLAN password here as well and confirm with "Connect".
