F1 2019: Driving without ABS - our tips & info help

F1 2019 gained a lot of popularity due to a free Steam trial - the cancellation of the real Formula 1 season contributed to this even more. We therefore deal with the important topic of ABS.

No ABS, more sensitivity: locked wheels are a real challenge in F1 2019.

ABS allows full braking without the wheels locking. In F1 2019, experienced players do without this aid.

F1 2019: ABS waiver increases difficulty - and realism

There has been no ABS in Formula 1 since 1993. Players who want to experience as much realism as possible, consequently go the same way:
  • The ABS can be found in the options menu in the listing of driving aids.
  • Without ABS, you will notice that you can no longer control the direction when braking too hard, because the wheels lock. For the front wheels, this means severe understeer and you miss the corner apex.
  • This requires a rethink when approaching corners or braking points.
  • The more grip, the later the tires lock. In the rain or with heavily worn tires block the tires consequently the faster, because then less grip is available.
  • The best method is therefore to brake early and then loosen the brake. In general, it often does not work to brake into a braking zone with 100 percent; it is better to divide the braking process if possible into several actions, each with very short interruptions.
  • The vehicle setup also plays a role: you can change the brake pressure and thus adapt to your driving style. More pressure means more braking power, but also a faster blocking. The right balance is required here - only trial and error helps.
After all, in the game - contrary to reality - no so-called "brake plates" are possible, which can result from too much blocking. Clearly more realistic and challenging it becomes without ABS nevertheless. Tire wear is also increased with locked wheels, which affects the long-term performance in the race.
