How to set up your WLAN under Ubuntu

If you skipped setting up the WLAN when you installed your operating system, you can do this under Ubuntu afterwards. The steps may differ in some respects depending on which default desktop you are using. In this case, the instructions refer to Gnome, since the latest Ubuntu version uses it.
  1. First press the Windows key or the corresponding version on your keyboard.
  2. Then enter "WLAN" in the search box and confirm this with the Enter key.
  3. Now click on "WLAN: How to connect to wireless networks" under "Settings". You will then be redirected to the WLAN options.
  4. Activate the WLAN function, if not already done. You can use the switch at the top right for this. Whether it is switched off, you can see by the fact that the switch says "OFF" and no WLAN connections are displayed to you.
  5. Have you pressed the switch, you will be shown all WLAN networks in your area.
  6. Select your network and click on it. Now enter your password. About the gear icon, you can also make further settings.
