FIFA 21: What are groundbreakers? We explain

Groundbreakers are supposed to make VOLTA in FIFA 21 much more interesting than in its predecessor. We explain what they are and what surprises you should be ready for.

Stars in the small field: Groundbreaker should provide additional motivation in VOLTA.

Small field soccer is fast and dynamic - however, the mode could not celebrate the hoped-for success in FIFA 20. This year should be different, as explained here.

FIFA 21: Groundbreaker list with two special guests

Groundbreakers are special players that you can win for your own team via "Presented Battles" mode in VOLTA. To do this, you must first defeat the Groundbreakers on the field. In the list of groundbreakers available at the beginning, two names in particular stand out, since they actually have nothing to do with soccer:
  • Anthony Joshua: The Briton is the reigning heavyweight boxing champion of the world and is not necessarily a small-field soccer player in terms of stature.
  • Diplo: The US American is not even a professional athlete, but is firmly anchored in the music business. As co-owner of Phoenix Rising FC, he is, after all, a true soccer fan.
The other names to start are a mix of current stars and former legends: Kylian Mbappé, Trent Alexander-Arnold and João Félix represent the current era, joined by Eric Cantona, Kaká and Thierry Henry. Over time, more stars are expected to be added as groundbreakers.
