Scrum Roles: An Overview

In agile project management, Scrum is an indispensable tool for working as efficiently as possible. Scrum is characterized by a simple and manageable division of labor that ensures maximum flexibility. In doing so, the methodology basically gets by with only three rough management roles.

What Scrum roles are there?

The three roles in Scrum are the development team, the Scrum Master and a Product Owner. Each role has specific tasks that are interrelated.
  • Scrum Master: this role represents the facilitator and organizer of the project. The Scrum Master takes care of the communication between the developers and the outside world. He monitors the clearly defined rules of the project and creates framework conditions for a successful course. The main focus is on the work process itself and not the project content.
  • Product Owner: The Product Owner is responsible for representing the interests of the participants and users and defining them in the development team. He decides what focus is placed on certain product features and interacts with customers to meet the expected requirements.
  • Development Team: In Scrum, a development team usually consists of only a few people who form an interdisciplinary working group with different skills. Hierarchies are in the background. Das Entwicklungsteam setzt mit Scrum Anwendungen die vom Product Owner definierten Aspekte um. Flexibilität und das Arbeiten in „Sprints“ sorgen für zusätzliche Effizienz.
