Fritzbox emergency IP - how to use it

To ensure that you have access to your Fritzbox even in case of problems, all routers from AVM have a so-called emergency IP. In order for the Fritzbox user interface to work via emergency IP, however, you first need to make some settings on your PC, laptop or Mac.

Fritzbox: How to use the emergency IP on the Windows PC

If you have made a mistake when setting up your Fritzbox, it can happen that you no longer have access to the user interface of the device. For this case, every Fritzbox has an emergency IP to enable access via the browser again.
  1. To access the Fritzbox using the emergency IP, please enter "169.254.1.1." in the address bar of your browser and then reset the router.
  2. If access via emergency IP does not work, you must first adjust the settings of your network adapter.
  3. To do this, open the Run dialog and enter the command "ncpa.cpl".
  4. Then right-click on your Internet connection and navigate to "Properties".
  5. There, mark the entry "Internet Protocol, Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", click on "Properties" and select the option "Obtain IP address automatically" before confirming with "OK".

Use Fritzbox access via emergency ID under macOS

If you have a Mac, open the Finder first to use the emergency IP and navigate in this to "Applications, System Preferences, Network". Then click first on "Ethernet" and then on "More options" and select "Manual" from the drop-down menu next to the "IPv4" entry. Now enter the emergency IP 169.254.1.2 under "Address" and type "255.255.0.0" at "Subnet mask" before confirming with "OK".
