For a long time, Apple's iPhone models were not protected against water. This has changed since the release of the iPhone 7, so that all models released since then have an IP classification. IP is the abbreviation for "International Protection Mark" and consists of two numbers. While the first number indicates how well a device is protected against dust penetration, the second number indicates whether a device is waterproof.

These iPhone models are waterproof

To date, there are a total of seven iPhone models that have an IP classification. However, out of these seven models, only three are IP68 classified, which means that they are also protected against permanent submersion under water. The other four iPhone models, on the other hand, are only waterproof to IP67 and may be submerged in water up to one meter deep for a maximum of 30 minutes.
