Sky Go: Bypass HDMI lock - is it still necessary?

As a mobile variant, Sky Go caused problems for a long time when streams were to be transferred to the TV via HDMI. However, this is a thing of the past and we explain what the official solution looks like.

Under the right conditions, you can stream Sky Go directly to your TV.

The welcome change came at the beginning of 2019: Sky announced that the HDMI lock had been lifted. However, one prerequisite must be met for this, and there are also restrictions.

Sky Go: HDMI lock on PC with desktop app no longer present

And this is the official desktop app:
  • This must be installed on the PC. The program is free and is available for download at this address.
  • After installation, simply log in, then connect the PC via HDMI cable to the TV.
Since this way no HDMI lock exists anymore, no tricks or detours are necessary to conjure up the picture from the PC to the TV. Important to know: If you use Sky Go with mobile devices (iOS and Android), this option is still not available. A PC or laptop is therefore mandatory.
