Tinder: Alarm button introduced - how the feature works

Tinder has been one of the biggest names in online dating for years. To cope with the massive user numbers, security is also to be improved in the future. We introduce the alarm button.

SOS via app: Thanks to the alarm button, Tinder users can call for help quickly and easily.

The emergency function is implemented with Noonlight, an app in which Tinder's parent company now has a stake.

Tinder: How the alarm button helps

Following info you should know:
  • The prerequisite for using the button users already create before the meeting. Namely, then they can specify who and where they meet, so that this information is already available in the system.
  • If it actually comes to an emergency situation, the user only needs to press the button (in the Tinder app). Noonlight will be informed about it immediately, can investigate the situation and, if necessary, turn on measures such as the police.
  • Importantly, the other party will be informed about the use of this mechanism in advance, which should have a deterrent effect.
  • In addition, profile pictures will be verified in the future, since misleading methods such as the so-called "catfishing" in online dating are unfortunately very common.
Tinder should thus remain safe to use even with further growth. Until all these features are also live in Germany, however, some time may pass. Users who want maximum security should simply wait a few more weeks or months if in doubt.
