WhatsApp: Load backup - how it works

Backups are basically there to restore lost or deleted files. With WhatsApp, you can also use backups to counteract data loss. Backups can even be used when switching to a different smartphone and reinstalling WhatsApp.

Load WhatsApp backup on Android and iPhone smartphone

In order to load a backup, you must of course first create one. You can make settings to save the history when setting up WhatsApp.

1. Make sure you load the backup for Android smartphones directly to Google Drive instead of your smartphone. This not only makes it available faster, but also makes it easier to use from other devices.
2. Now download a file management app to your smartphone.
3. Navigate to the [/sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases] path within the app to find backups of WhatsApp.
4. From the filename, you can see when the backup was created and can thus track from which date you need the history.
5. Name the relevant backup now to [msgstore.db.crypt9] um und deinstallieren Sie anschließend WhatsApp.
6. Laden Sie sich nun die neuste Version der App herunter und melden Sie sich mit Ihrem Konto an.
7. Das Backup wird automatisch erkannt und geladen.
8. Für iPhone-Nutzer müssen Sie lediglich WhatsApp deinstallieren und erneut installieren.
9. Die App wird automatisch das zuletzt durchgeführte Backup registrieren und von der iCloud aus laden.
