Renaming folders on the Mac - this is how you proceed

Folders can be renamed on the Mac via the context menu of the folder management or via a key combination. You may use numbers, letters and some special characters for the name. If you use forbidden characters, you will get an error message and have to choose another name.

How easy it is to rename folders on the Mac

On the Mac, you can rename folders quickly. You can do this with one click or you can use a simple keyboard shortcut. When choosing a name, make sure that not all characters can appear in a folder name. All numbers and letters and also some special characters are allowed. However, you are not allowed to use the following characters: ~ " # % & * : < > ? / \ { | }. Your Mac will notify you if you use an illegal character and will not accept the name.

Rename using the context menu

  1. Right-click on a folder.
  2. Select "Rename".
  3. The file name will be selected. You can see this because the name is highlighted in blue.
  4. Type in a new name.
  5. Confirm with "Enter" or click on an empty space on your desktop to save the changes.

  1. Klicken Sie auf einen Ordner.
